DFSee 14 BETA update: VirtualBox support
FYI, DFSee version 14 BETA available for evaluation
With the beta released today, it is possible to access VirtualBox disk images (.VDI)
as a normal disk including partitions and filesystems, it allows you to COPY any
individual files or whole directories from such images, using the BROWSE functionality.
Browse is supported for the following filesystems: HPFS, JFS, NTFS, FAT(32), ExFAT, EXT2/3/4
Even better, since WRITING to a VDI is supported too, you can even make changes
like creating partitions, setting a partition startable, change LVm info or whatever writing is normally supported by DFSee, all without the need to start a virtual machine ...
For a quick test, just start DFSee and use the menu:
File ->
Open a VDI (VBox) diskimage
Or, for example from an OS/2 commandline, to copy some files from a backup image:
dfsos2 -d- vdi c:\vbox\diskimages\ecs22beta.vdi
Feel free to try out these new features, with the beta that can be downloaded from:
www.dfsee.com/download/dfsee140.zip
For OS/2, you can also use the WARPIN installer:
www.dfsee.com/download/dfsee140_warpin.exe
And for Windows:
www.dfsee.com/download/dfsee140.msi
You can use those without a key, in evaluation mode.
However, if you planned to upgrade your DFSee registration anyway, there is NO need
to wait for the official 14.x release, all registration keys issued after the 1st of october 2016 are valid for version 14!
Please have a go at the current functionality in the BETA, and let me know what you think.
Just start DFSee as usual, then start browsing using the <F9> key, or use the various menu
items that give access to BROWSE.
Use the <F1> key whenever you are unsure in any way, there is lots of context aware HELP available explaining shortcut keys, menu items and dialogs. Also, don't forget the single
line with help/description at the bottom of the screen!
Feedback highly appreciated!
Regards, JvW
